Get to Know Me
Below you will find a short(ish) piece about me and how I spend my time, to better understand who I am!
Career Goal Narrative
Throughout my time at the Forrest Career and Technology Center and Leonardtown High School, I have been working towards a career in aerospace engineering and aviation; although, my passion for aerospace has been cultivated over the course of my life and fortified through my experiences in STEM and within the realm of space travel.
My career interests are supported by the classes I chose to take over the years at Leonardtown High School and with the Tech Center. Most notably, by graduation I will have completed AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, and AP Statistics. I will also be receiving the Certificate of Excellence for 3 years in the Engineering Program. Nonetheless, these classes, while taking up a large amount of my time in high school, are not sufficient in illustrating my capacity as a student and my dedication to the work that I put in to achieve my goals.
My involvement in sports and my community is a very important aspect of my life and has greatly shaped who I am as a person. I am a 4x member of the Leonardtown Field Hockey team and look forward to leading as Captain during the fall of my senior year. I enjoy running and weightlifting with my team/on my own, being a previous member of the Leonardtown Track team. I play competitive field hockey year round, the collegiate level achievement being what motivates me to push myself in practice and workouts. In every activity I do, I find myself to be extremely goal oriented.
I am known to have a busy schedule and have been caught saying “sleep is for the dead”. I have had the fantastic opportunity to work as a Program Analyst for J.F. Taylor this summer (2024), expanding my technical skills and familiarizing myself with the work that Government Contractors do. I will find myself on the other side of this interaction in fall, beginning as a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice for the Aircraft Prototype Systems Division (APSD) on the Patuxent River Naval Base. I greatly look forward to this exposure to the US Navy, as I know a military background is near-necessary to involvement in Space Travel and plan to be involved with ROTC during my time in University. On the weekends, I work the early morning shift at a Bakery in my small town. Here you will find the best cake donut on this side of the Potomac!
I believe that hard work is valuable with or without compensation, and this becomes explicitly clear through my volunteer work and leadership positions. To most, Key Club is a place where they eat lunch every other Tuesday; to me, Key Club is a part time job! I am glowing with the opportunity to serve my second year as President, and fourth year as a Board member/leader within our school’s chapter this fall. During the school year, I will spend about 10 hours a week on club matters: organizing service events for the club; creating graphics for our social media; crafting presentations for club meetings; communicating with our community service contacts, our club sponsors, administration, the members, and board members; and delegating/monitoring the weekly tasks of my fellow board members. Facilitating the largest club in my high school has been extremely rewarding and has connected me to the members and surrounding community in more ways than I can share.
Somewhere in between these commitments, I find time to coach a 5th grade recreational field hockey team on Wednesday nights and during their Saturday afternoon games. Planning the activities the girls do at practice might be a challenge for some, but I find that my previous 10 years of the sport has prepared me to serve them well and lead them to recreational victories every weekend. Providing them with the skills I wish I could have learned at their age and a place to make lifelong friends (I am still close with my rec teammates) is the best way to give back to the sport/club I love so much.
Of course, the downtime I have is just as important to understanding who I am as the list of activities found on my resume. I love photography and sharing my photos on social media; between the 4 club/team accounts I keep regularly updated, 3 personal accounts of my own, and 1 as a digital scrapbook for my 9(y/o) sister: 10 extra hours of my week are spent on content creation (often in the form of abstract photo collages). I enjoy eating dinner with my family, watching “Dancing with the Stars” together, and I spend a great deal of time driving my 2 younger sisters around (don't tell them that I secretly love it!).
Through every way I occupy my time, I aim to achieve my career/personal goals and become a better version of myself. After graduating high school and university, my dream is to work worldwide with organizations that are making a difference and doing work that has never been done before.
